David C. "Dave" Sutton, Ph.D. of Champaign passed away on April 2, 2020; he was born December 18, 1933 in Ardmore, Pennsylvania and earned his doctorate in physics from Princeton University.

Sutton was a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign until his retirement in 1990 and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign where he advocated for social action, racial justice, and criminal justice reform.

Sutton was an accomplished skier, barbershop and choir singer, and maintained lifelong ties to the Colorado Rockies where he spent summers as a boy.

Sutton is survived by his wife of 31 years Nancy M. Hanks-Sutton, daughter Eliza Leeds Sutton, grandson John I. Sahr, and three nieces.

The Illinois Senate extends condolences to Sutton's family and friends, with a suitable copy of the resolution to be presented to his family.
