Senate resolution mourning the death of Harvey John Schweitzer Jr., Ph.D., of Champaign, who passed away on March 28, 2020.

Dr. Schweitzer was born June 1, 1919, in Malta; earned degrees from Northern Illinois University (1946), Michigan State University (master's, 1948), and University of Wisconsin (doctorate, 1958); served as national FFA student secretary from 1938 to 1939.

Operated family farm from 1950 to 1962 while serving as South Grove Township Farm Bureau director and county school board member; joined University of Illinois Agricultural Economics Department in 1962 as extension specialist and later assistant director of Cooperative Extension Service, retiring as professor emeritus in 1985 and 1989.

Held leadership positions in professional societies and state, regional, and national research and extension committees; was instrumental in establishing rural development and sustainable agriculture programs.

Senate extends condolences to his surviving wife April, five children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
