Illinois Senate mourns the death of William "Bill" R. Browning, who passed away on July 5, 2020.

Bill Browning was born May 26, 1930, in Christopher; earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1952 and a master's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1958; served as a Battalion Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Worked 38 years in public service including as a teacher and coach at Staunton and Lanphier High Schools, co-director of Community School Programs in Springfield, and in various roles with the Illinois Department of Business and Economic Development, Department of Personnel, and State Board of Education before retiring in 1989.

Active member of First Christian Church in Springfield, American Legion Post #32, Illinois Education Association, and Great Lakes Areas Development Council; authored articles and conducted seminars; managed Khoury league baseball teams and enjoyed golf, genealogy, and sports.

Survived by his wife Catherine, two children, five grandchildren, and extended family; a suitable copy of the resolution will be presented to his family.
