Illinois Senate mourns the death of Ellen F. Whalen, who passed away on April 10, 2020.

Ellen Whalen earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati in 1958 and specialized in psychiatric nursing, serving as a registered nurse at Victory Memorial, St. Therese, and the VA hospital in North Chicago.

Worked as a certified addictions counselor in chemical dependency units at Victory Memorial Hospital and Lake County Alcoholism Treatment Center.

Active in the Sons of Norway, served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, played piano, was an accomplished rosemaler winning numerous awards, and was a member of St. Anastasia Church and St. Dismas Church.

Survived by six children, ten grandchildren, her brother James Foucault, sister Kathleen Van Tilberg, and numerous other family members and friends.
