Illinois Senate mourns the death of Richard Joseph Hoeniges of Bloomington, who passed away on July 26, 2020.

Richard Hoeniges served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Bloomington Police Department for 31 years, retiring as a detective and earning the affectionate nickname "Pops" from fellow officers.

He was a devout Catholic involved in the Cursillo movement, established a chaplain program at the police department, and volunteered at St. Mary's Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen.

Richard is survived by his wife Gloria of 61 years, five sons, one daughter, 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and multiple siblings and extended family members.

The Senate extends sincere condolences to his family and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Hoeniges family.
