Honors Judge Fred William Reither, who died on August 10, 2020, with a Senate resolution expressing condolences to his family and friends

Judge Reither served as Circuit Court Judge of the 8th Judicial Circuit for Cass County for 45 years, retiring in 2001 as one of Illinois's longest-serving justices, and was noted for his grace, fairness, and kindness

Reither was a World War II veteran who served with the 75th Infantry Division during major European campaigns and held the Combat Infantryman Badge; he earned his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law on the GI Bill in 1950

He was active in Democratic politics as vice president of Young Democrats of Illinois and a delegate to the 1952 Democratic National Convention, and was a lifelong member of veterans organizations, bar associations, and St. John's Lutheran Church
