Senate Resolution memorializing LeArthur "Lee" Dunlap of Chicago, who died on August 6, 2020, at age 97

Dunlap was one of the first 277 African American sailors allowed to join the U.S. Navy in July 1942 after Pearl Harbor; served as Electrician Mate 3 and advocated for fair treatment of African American sailors before honorable discharge in January 1946

Earned B.A. in Political Science from Roosevelt University in 1949, later earned diploma from the University of Paris (Sorbonne), and had a distinguished 25+ year government career with IRS, ATF, FBI, and FAA, including helping launch the international sky marshal program

Worked as teacher and administrator at Malcolm X College and Westside Learning Center in Chicago; served as president of WWII Black Navy Veterans of Lake County

Survived by wife Debra Dunlap, two daughters, stepsons, multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and four siblings
