Donald E. "Gus" Kissel of Springfield passed away on September 13, 2020, and the Illinois Senate mourns his passing.

Kissel was born August 8, 1931, in Ottawa to John F. and Anne Kelly Kissel; graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru; attended Purdue University; served in the U.S. Army; and married Margaret A. Roach on June 20, 1953.

Worked for Illinois Bell for 38 years as a forecaster and retired in 1990; named to the Chicago Tribune All-State Football Team and inducted into the St. Bede Athletic Hall of Fame.

Survived by his wife Marge, three sons (Tom, Jim, and Ken), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his brother Robert Groter, and several nieces and nephews.

Senate extends sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him, and directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Kissel family.
