Illinois Senate mourns the death of David Burton Mercier of Kappa, who passed away on September 20, 2020.

Mercier was born September 10, 1950, in Bloomington; graduated from University High School in 1968 and studied engineering and business at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Colorado Boulder, and Illinois State University.

Served as a U.S. Marine who completed Officer Candidate School at Quantico; worked in research and programming for NBC, Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, and Chase Bank before founding Micro Applications Systems and later serving as chairman of Starnet Digital Publishing.

Active in community service as a Sigma Chi member, Mason with Normal Lodge 673, and Charter Member of Bloomington Normal Sunrise Rotary, serving as president from 1991 to 1992 and named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1992.

Survived by his wife of 40 years Gladys F. Mercier, daughter Meredith Diaz, two grandchildren, mother Mary L. Mercier, three siblings, and numerous extended family members.
