John Robert Lawrence of Bloomington died on October 8, 2020; born May 24, 1932, in Rockford to Robert A. and Olive Safford Lawrence.

Graduated from West High School in Rockford in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Knox College in Galesburg in 1954 with a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry.

Served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962, stationed in Germany with the 9th Infantry Division and serving with the 1st, 8th, and 10th Infantry Divisions in command and communications roles.

Worked in college admissions at MacMurray College and Knox College, as an assistant to the Dean at New York University Medical Division, as a business forms designer, and as an instructor in Dietetics at Western Illinois University.

Survived by sister Ruth Ives, three sons/daughters with spouses, and 13 great-grandchildren; the Senate expresses condolences to his family and friends.
