Joseph Dean "Joe" Scherschel of Hampton passed away on November 13, 2020.

Born August 3, 1933, in Rapid City; graduated from Moline High School in 1952; served in the U.S. Army Reserve as Private First Class during the Korean War.

Worked for Omar Bread Company, Gas & Light Company, and the U.S. Postal Service (retiring in 1998 with perfect attendance); volunteered for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center after retirement, earning the nickname "The Blood Man."

Member of the First Baptist Church of East Moline; known for daily bike rides, visiting local restaurants, performing magic tricks, and being a devoted grandfather to four grandchildren.

The Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his surviving family, including his son Jay, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
