Illinois State Senate mourns the death of former State Senator and Carlinville Mayor Deanna Demuzio, who passed away on October 20, 2020.

Demuzio was appointed to the Illinois State Senate for the 49th District in 2004 following her husband's death and was elected to her first term in November 2004, focusing on education and healthcare issues.

As an Illinois State Senator, Demuzio championed mentoring programs for principals, preschool education, adequate school funding, and improved healthcare access to rural and underserved areas.

Demuzio was elected Mayor of Carlinville in May 2013 and served as a board trustee for Blackburn College and member of multiple state and local boards and committees.

The Senate extends condolences to Demuzio's surviving family members: daughter Stephanie Blair, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, and an aunt.
