Ernest Hauser, a second-generation Oak Park resident born in May 1930, passed away on October 30, 2019 at age 89.

Hauser served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a rifle company commander and was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of first lieutenant.

He earned a fifth-degree black belt in judo in 1992 and taught the sport for nearly four decades at the Oak Park YMCA, Lattof YMCA of Metro Chicago, and the Tohkon Judo Academy before retiring in 2006.

Hauser worked as a personnel director for multiple Chicago companies and later moved to Elmwood Park in the mid-1990s where he remained active in his community.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his surviving family including his daughters Karen and Barb, longtime companion Pam Schultz, and former wife Pauline.
