Thomas E. Johnson, a Chicago attorney, passed away on April 13, 2020 at age 69.

Johnson earned a bachelor's degree from American University and a law degree from Harvard Law School, and founded the law firm Johnson, Jones, Snelling, Gilbert & Davis.

He worked on affordable housing initiatives in Chicago, served as a hearing officer for the Chicago Police Board overseeing police misconduct cases, and represented elected officials including Mayor Harold Washington and U.S. Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.

Johnson secured restitution for coal miners with black lung disease, worked with the labor movement, and was dedicated to social justice and helping disadvantaged people.

He is survived by his three sons Ben, Charlie, and Jake Johnson, and his godson Chris Hampton.
