Illinois Senate expresses mourning for the death of Taft Rosco Gilliam, who passed away on December 3, 2020.

Gilliam was born November 1, 1937 in Bellefonte, Virginia and earned a Bachelor of Science in Systems Management from Virginia State University in 1959.

Served 27 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Colonel, with deployments to Taiwan, Luxembourg, Vietnam, Korea, and West Germany, retiring August 31, 1987.

Received numerous military medals and commendations including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation with Palm, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Legion of Merit.

Senate extends condolences to Gilliam's surviving children, siblings, grandchildren, and extended family.
