Robert "Bob" Gilpin of Newman passed away on November 26, 2020, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and loved ones.

Gilpin was born January 9, 1935, in Decatur, graduated from Atwood High School in 1953, and earned a master's degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University.

He served as an industrial arts teacher at Newman High School starting in June 1959, coached football, basketball, and track, and later served as principal of Newman High School and Homer High School for 18 years.

Gilpin was an active member of Newman United Methodist Church for over 62 years and remained a supporter of Eastern Illinois University and the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

He is survived by his wife Nellie of 62 years, two sons (Gary E. Gilpin and Brent A. Gilpin), four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
