HB0260 Summary

• Amends the Expressway Camera Act to expand camera program to include Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Cook County, in addition to expressways.

• Permits authorized users and law enforcement to extract and use expressway camera images for investigations of vehicular hijacking, aggravated vehicular hijacking, terrorism, motor vehicle theft, forcible felonies involving firearms, and highway safety purposes.

• Requires automatic deletion of camera images within 120 days unless relevant to ongoing investigations or criminal trials; prohibits discriminatory monitoring practices.

• Mandates annual joint reports to the General Assembly by June 30th detailing camera installation costs by county, maintenance expenses, and number of investigations involving specified criminal offenses.

• Extends the Expressway Camera Act repeal date from July 1, 2023 to July 1, 2025; adds corresponding temporary exemption from Freedom of Information Act disclosure for expressway camera images (inoperative after July 1, 2023).
