Police officers may establish optional credit for up to 5 years of prior service under Article 5 if they apply by December 31, 2023, have 10 years of contributing service, and pay back contributions plus the municipality's normal cost with interest.

Widow's compensation and supplemental annuities for employees who die from duty-related injuries are expanded to include COVID-19 deaths contracted between March 9, 2020 and June 30, 2021, with a rebuttable presumption of duty-related contraction.

Annuities are not cancelled when Chicago Public School employees re-enter service as temporary Special Education Classroom Assistants or Classroom Assistants if they work no more than 120 days per school year or earn no more than $30,000 in gross compensation per year, effective for school years beginning July 1, 2021 or later.

Re-employment as a temporary Special Education Classroom Assistant or Classroom Assistant does not require pension contributions, earn service credit, or constitute active participation in the pension fund.

The State is exempted from reimbursing local costs associated with the mandates created by this act.
