State Board of Education shall develop a model youth suicide awareness and prevention policy in consultation with youth suicide prevention organizations and school board representatives.

State Board of Education must compile and post recommended guidelines, training materials, and age-appropriate educational resources on youth suicide awareness and prevention on its public website.

School board policies must include statements on prevention, protocols for staff and student education, early identification procedures, intervention methods for at-risk students, response procedures for suicides or attempts, reporting procedures, and resource information.

Intervention methods must address mental health and safety plans for students at increased risk, including those with mental health or substance abuse disorders, history of self-harm, homelessness, LGBTQ status, suicide bereavement, or certain medical conditions and disabilities.

Each school board must review, update, or adopt a compliant suicide awareness and prevention policy by the 2015-2016 school year, inform employees and parents, and post the policy on the district's public website.
