Department of Human Rights may petition to intervene as a party in discrimination complaints before the Commission if the case involves matters of public importance, the Department has a distinct interest, its expertise is needed, or existing parties may inadequately represent the Department's interests.

Department as an intervenor shall have all rights of an original party and the Commission may award relief authorized under Section 8A-104 upon intervention.

Attorney General may intervene on behalf of the Department in civil actions filed by complainants in State or federal court if the Department certifies the case is of general public importance.

Department granted authority to intervene in complaints filed under the Illinois Human Rights Act pending before the Commission.
