IL HB0793

Prohibits members of the Illinois General Assembly, their spouses, and immediate family members living with them from accepting compensation for lobbying any state or local government officials.

Expands the ban to include both formal lobbying registration activities and any communication with government officials intended to influence executive, legislative, or administrative action.

Elevates the penalty for violations from Class A misdemeanor to official misconduct, a Class 3 felony under the Criminal Code of 2012.

Repeals previous language that allowed uncompensated lobbying by legislators and defined the violation as a lesser misdemeanor offense.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
