HB1449 Summary

• Extends the Elevator Safety and Regulation Act and Fire Equipment Distributor and Employee Regulation Act from their January 1, 2023 sunset date to January 1, 2028.

• Removes the Elevator Safety and Regulation Act and Fire Equipment Distributor and Employee Regulation Act of 2011 from the January 1, 2023 repeal list and adds them to the January 1, 2028 repeal list.

• Increases minimum liability insurance requirements for fire equipment distributors from $300,000 to $1,000,000 and adds workers' compensation insurance requirements.

• Establishes automatic suspension of fire equipment employee licenses upon employment termination and requires fire equipment distributors to notify the state within 5 business days of termination.

• Updates fire equipment licensing procedures to allow licenses issued on or after July 1, 2023 to be valid for 3 years instead of 1 year, subject to rule changes.
