Illinois Toll Highway Authority must install automatic license plate reader (ALPR) systems at specified locations on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (East Riverside Boulevard and Business Route 20/East State Street entrance/exit points) and Interstate 39 (3 southbound lanes between I-90 merge and Harrison Avenue exit, and 3 northbound lanes before I-90 split).

Local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction where ALPR systems are located are authorized to collect license plate data captured by the systems.

Captured plate data (including GPS coordinates, date, time, photograph, license plate number, and derived information) is prohibited from use, sharing, sale, or trade for any purpose other than law enforcement.

Law enforcement agencies must delete captured plate data within 30 days of collection and cannot preserve it longer than this retention period.
