IL HB1775

Amends Article 27 of the Township Code to allow discontinuance of townships within coterminous or substantially coterminous municipalities, removing previous restrictions based on county population (3 million or more) and township size (7 square miles or more).

Permits township discontinuance upon adoption of an ordinance by the township board or city council, or upon petition signed by at least 10% of registered voters in the township.

Requires submission of a discontinuance proposition to township voters at the next election, with transfer of all township rights, powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, and obligations to the coterminous municipality upon voter approval.

Establishes a 4-year waiting period before a discontinuance proposition can be resubmitted after initial electoral defeat.

Repeals Article 28 of the Township Code regarding discontinuance of specified townships in St. Clair County, with immediate effective date.
