IL HB1777

Amends Illinois Pension Code Section 22-306 to require cities with populations over 1,000,000 to notify injured police officers and firefighters of their medical care benefits within a reasonable time after an accident.

Requires that cities provide medical care and hospital treatment benefits to injured officers and firefighters prior to issuing the required notification of eligibility.

Applies only to home rule cities with populations exceeding 1,000,000 inhabitants and is characterized as a limitation on concurrent powers under the Illinois Constitution.

Exempts the state from reimbursing municipalities for costs of implementing the new mandate requirements under the State Mandates Act.

Took effect upon becoming law.
