IL HB1833

Establishes a transition to teaching program administered by the Board of Higher Education for competent professionals, recent college graduates, and school workers to become teachers.

Requires program participants to pass a written competency examination in relevant subjects, complete a beginning teacher residency program at an Illinois elementary or secondary school, and receive school sponsorship for an initial practitioner license.

Authorizes the State Board of Education to create an initial practitioner license by rule that allows individuals to teach while pursuing a Professional Educator License.

Creates a loan forgiveness program for transition to teaching participants with state-guaranteed student loans who obtain a Professional Educator License and teach in a rural or disadvantaged school district for 2 consecutive school years.
