Beginning with the next registration year after the effective date, newly registered motor vehicles shall receive one registration plate instead of two plates.

The single registration plate must be attached to the rear of the vehicle instead of front and rear placement.

References to "plates" in plural in existing Illinois Vehicle Code sections are deemed to refer to the single registration plate required under this amendment.

Exemptions remain for motorcycles, trailers, semitrailers, truck-tractors, apportioned buses, and apportioned trucks, which continue under existing plate requirements.
