IL HB1917

Amends the Boat Registration and Safety Act to allow motorboat operators to tow persons on water skis, aquaplanes, or similar devices with only one competent person aboard if the motorboat is equipped with wide-angle mirrors, instead of requiring at least two competent persons.

Permits operators to comply with towing requirements through either two competent persons on board or one competent person with wide-angle mirrors as an alternative safety measure.

Maintains existing requirements that motorboats used for towing must have a capacity of at least 3 persons and cannot engage in towing activities from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise.

Retains all other safety provisions including prudent operation standards, prohibition on intentional collisions, and requirements to display a bright orange flag measuring at least 12 inches per side during towing activities.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
