IL HB2376

Amends the Medical Practice Act of 1987 to require licensees to complete a continuing education course in maternal mental health as part of the 50-hour annual continuing education requirement.

Mandates the maternal mental health course address screening for maternal mental health disorders (including cultural competency and bias awareness), the range of maternal mental health disorders, evidence-based treatment options with maternal involvement, and when to consult or refer to a psychiatrist.

Requires the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to establish rules consistent with requirements of relevant professional associations, specialty societies, or boards.

Allows variances in requirements for good cause, including temporary illness or hardship, and permits participation in programs sponsored by professional associations or hospitals.

Becomes effective immediately upon enactment.
