IL HB2527

Amends Section 3-118 of the Illinois Vehicle Code regarding salvage and junking certificates for motor vehicles.

Requires that each salvage certificate application be verified through the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) for a vehicle history report before the Secretary of State issues the certificate.

Removes provisions stating that dealer reassignment rules under Section 3-113 apply to salvage certificates, except as provided in Section 3-117.2.

Clarifies that a salvage certificate may be assigned (rather than reassigned) to one person who is licensed as a rebuilder, automotive parts recycler, scrap processor, out-of-state salvage vehicle buyer, or municipal fire department (for police impounded vehicles).
