• Removes the requirement that respondents receive actual notice and opportunity to participate in hearings when petitioners seek firearm possession prohibitions in domestic violence orders of protection.

• Changes firearm prohibition duration from the full order term to a minimum of 2 years or the order duration, whichever is longer.

• Requires Firearm Owner's Identification Cards to be suspended and turned over to a law enforcement agency of the court's choosing (rather than specifically the local agency) for safekeeping with the Department of State Police.

• Extends the safekeeping period for seized firearms to match the firearm prohibition period (2 years or order duration, whichever is greater), and applies the same extended period to peace officers' duty firearms.

• Maintains existing provisions allowing return of firearms and cards upon request after the safekeeping period ends, unless the respondent is ineligible to possess firearms.
