IL HB2574

Amends the Humane Care for Animals Act to add firefighters and paramedics to the list of persons authorized to enter a motor vehicle to rescue a companion animal in distress.

Firefighters and paramedics may enter a vehicle by any reasonable means if they have probable cause to believe the animal's health or safety is at risk, after making a reasonable effort to locate the owner or responsible person.

Maintains existing prohibitions on confining companion animals in motor vehicles in conditions that threaten their life or health due to extreme heat or cold without proper ventilation.

First violation is a Class C misdemeanor; second or subsequent violations are a Class B misdemeanor.
