IL HB2606

Amends the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act to prohibit public service announcements and advertisements for state-administered programs from being posted on social media platforms if they contain the name, image, or voice of executive branch constitutional officers or members of the General Assembly.

Extends existing restrictions that already applied to radio, television, commercial newspapers, magazines, billboards, and electronic message boards to now also include social media platforms.

Maintains existing prohibitions on the use of names or images of state officials and legislators on promotional items such as bumper stickers, lapel pins, buttons, magnets, and stickers when funded with public dollars.

Exempts communications funded through expenditures required to be reported under Article 9 of the Election Code from these restrictions.
