IL HB2622

Amends the School Visitation Rights Act to prohibit employers from terminating employees for absences due to attendance at school conferences, behavioral meetings, or academic meetings as defined in Section 15.

Employers cannot use employee absences for school-related meetings as grounds for disciplinary action or termination.

Creates civil liability for employers who violate the termination prohibition, with employers bearing the burden of proof to demonstrate that a termination is unrelated to an employee's school visitation absence.

Preserves existing protections by clarifying that employees cannot lose benefits for exercising rights under the Act (except as provided in Section 20) and that collective bargaining agreements cannot diminish these rights.

Takes effect August 1, 2021.
