Beginning with the next registration year after the bill's effective date, the Secretary of State shall issue one registration plate instead of two for newly registered motor vehicles.

The single registration plate shall be attached to the rear of the vehicle instead of to both front and rear.

References to "plates" in plural in existing law shall be deemed to refer to the single registration plate required under this amendment.

The changes apply to all motor vehicles other than motorcycles, trailers, semitrailers, truck-tractors, apportioned buses, and apportioned trucks, which retain existing plate requirements.
