IL HB2759

Expands vocational education elective requirements to grades 6-12 (previously grades 9-12), requiring school boards to include at least one vocational education course on mandatory elective course lists.

Changes school board policy from "authorized" to "shall" adopt policies allowing students in grades 9-12 to satisfy high school course or graduation requirements through registered apprenticeship programs or related vocational/technical education courses.

Requires substitute vocational or technical education courses to contain at least 50% of the content of the required course they replace, as determined by State Board of Education standards.

Mandates parental written request and approval before any vocational or technical education course substitution for a required course or graduation requirement can occur.

Effective July 1, 2021.
