HB2774 Summary

• Legislative Inspector General must notify all Legislative Ethics Commission members of allegations before initiating any investigation, but does not require advance Commission approval to begin investigations.

• Legislative Inspector General cannot investigate matters beyond the scope of or unrelated to the initial complaint without advance Commission approval.

• Legislative Inspector General may issue subpoenas without advance approval from the Legislative Ethics Commission.

• If the Legislative Inspector General finds wrongdoing occurred, he or she may make investigation summary reports and agency responses available to the public in full or redacted form.

• Legislative Inspector General (instead of Legislative Ethics Commission) shall redact witness, complainant, and informant identities from published reports and allow respondents, Commission members, and Attorney General to review documents before publication.
