IL HB2842

Prohibits the Legislative Ethics Commission from adopting or enforcing rules requiring the Legislative Inspector General to seek advance approval before commencing investigations or issuing subpoenas, and voids any existing such rules.

Removes the requirement that the Legislative Inspector General obtain Commission advance approval to issue subpoenas in ethics investigations.

Expands public disclosure requirements by mandating the Executive and Legislative Ethics Commissions make summary reports and responses publicly available within 60 days, regardless of disciplinary outcome (previously only required if suspension of 3+ days or termination resulted).

Allows redaction of information protecting witness, complainant, and informant identities, with respondents and the Inspector General permitted to review documents and suggest redactions before public release.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
