IL HB2852

Amends the Illinois Election Code Section 25-8 regarding gubernatorial appointment of U.S. Senate vacancies.

Requires any person appointed to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy to be affiliated with the same political party as the departing senator, if that senator was elected as a member of an established political party that still exists at the time of appointment.

Appointee must establish political party affiliation through either voting record in party primary elections or by holding or having held an office in a political party organization prior to appointment.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
