HB2997 Summary

• Teachers may establish one additional day of service credit for each day earned between March 16, 2020 and June 30, 2021 in which they provided in-person instruction, upon paying required contributions and providing satisfactory evidence.

• Tier 1 members who attained age 59 and earned service credit in the 2020-2021 school year have the retirement annuity reduction waived; those under 59 are deemed one year older for reduction purposes.

• Tier 2 members who attained age 66 and earned service credit in the 2020-2021 school year have the retirement annuity reduction waived; those under 66 are deemed one year older for reduction purposes.

• Any benefit increase resulting from this amendment is excluded from the definition of "new benefit increase" under pension law.

• The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
