HB3170 - Implicit Bias Training for Health Care Professionals Act

• Creates a requirement for all licensed health care professionals in Illinois to complete evidence-based implicit bias training as a condition of license renewal.

• Training must address how unintended biases regarding gender identity and sexual orientation affect the health care industry and include bias-reducing strategies.

• Training must cover identification of unconscious biases, institutional and structural barriers to inclusion, corrective measures at interpersonal and institutional levels, effects of historical and contemporary exclusion, effective communication strategies, and local community perspectives.

• Applies to dentists, nurses, occupational therapists, optometrists, pharmacists, physical therapists, physicians, physician assistants, podiatric physicians, clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and hearing instrument dispensers.

• Directs the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to adopt rules implementing the Act.
