HB3224 Summary

• Amends Illinois School Code Section 27-9.1 to require sex education courses in grades 6-12 include age-appropriate instruction on establishing physical boundaries in relationships and interactions with others.

• Requires instruction to cover how to set appropriate boundaries with others, how to respond to unwanted physical contact or advances, the importance of saying "no" in uncomfortable situations, and how to help peers deal with uncomfortable situations.

• Applies to all public school sex education classes that discuss sexual intercourse in grades 6-12 and must be developmentally and age-appropriate, medically accurate, and complete.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
