IL HB3246

Amends the School Code Section 27-13.2 to require instruction in grades kindergarten through 8 on effective methods for prevention and avoidance of drugs and the dangers of opioid and substance abuse.

Adds specific focus on opioids in addition to general drug and substance abuse prevention instruction that was previously required.

Allows school boards to incorporate this required instruction into regularly taught courses but mandates the instruction be given each year to all pupils in grades K-8.

Authorizes the State Superintendent of Education to prepare instructional materials and guidelines for schools to develop drug and opioid abuse prevention programs.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
