HB3373 Summary

• Amends the Public Safety Employee Benefits Act to require employers to offer employees who qualify for employer-paid health insurance premiums following fatal or catastrophic line-of-duty injuries the choice of any health insurance plan available to currently employed full-time public safety employees.

• Applies to law enforcement officers, correctional officers, correctional probation officers, and firefighters injured or killed on or after the effective date of the Act.

• Employers must pay entire health insurance premiums for the injured/deceased employee, their spouse, and dependent children (up to age of majority or age 25 if full-time/part-time student).

• Surviving spouses remain covered until remarriage; dependent children continue coverage under the specified conditions even if the injured employee subsequently dies.

• Establishes criminal penalties for fraudulently obtaining benefits under this Section, including forfeiture of coverage and requirement to reimburse employer for all benefits paid.
