Illinois Supreme Court may implement a program to issue "Hope Cards" to petitioners of plenary domestic violence protection orders for distribution to individuals who need awareness of the order.

Hope Cards must be laminated, wallet-sized cards containing the respondent's identifying information including photograph, active dates of the order, case number, and other pertinent order details.

Hope Cards have the same legal effect as the underlying plenary order of protection and may be issued as temporary cards at the time the order is entered.

First 3 Hope Cards per protected party are free; the Supreme Court may charge up to $5 for additional cards.

Law enforcement officers may verify the existence of a protection order by referring to a Hope Card provided by the petitioner or respondent, in addition to other verification methods.
