IL HB3726

Prohibits members of the Illinois General Assembly, their spouses, and immediate family members living with them from accepting compensation for lobbying any state or local government official.

Expands the ban to include both formal lobbying requiring registration and any communication with government officials intended to influence executive, legislative, or administrative action.

Establishes violations as official misconduct under the Criminal Code of 2012, elevating the penalty from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class 3 felony.

Defines "lobbying" to include meanings from the Governmental Ethics Act and the Lobbyist Registration Act, and defines "official" to include state executive and legislative branch officials as well as local government officials.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law and repeals prior provisions that only prohibited compensated lobbying.
