Beginning October 1, 2021, culturally responsive teaching standards apply to all Professional Educator Licenses in teaching, school support personnel, and administrative fields for both candidates and educator preparation programs.

Standards require teachers to demonstrate self-awareness, understand systems of oppression, view students as individuals and co-creators, and leverage student advocacy in the classroom.

Teachers must collaborate with families and communities through regular interaction, multiple communication methods, and integration of cultural knowledge into student learning experiences.

Curriculum must intentionally include diverse representation, counter-narratives to dominant culture, and multiple assessment modalities reflecting student identities and backgrounds.

Learning environments must ensure all student populations are equally represented through inclusive materials, diverse course content, and welcoming school systems that affirm student identities.
