School districts may implement a voluntary postsecondary mentoring program allowing athletic coaches, school counselors, and administrative staff to provide guidance to high school students about postsecondary academic and vocational options.

Mentoring services include connecting students to postsecondary opportunities through college and job fairs, assisting with college applications and enrollment, informing about career options, helping with financial aid, and developing strategies for reaching postsecondary goals.

School personnel participate on a voluntary basis and may receive compensation for their participation in the program.

School districts may issue certificates to participating personnel certifying they possess sufficient knowledge to advise students about postsecondary academic or vocational options.

The State Board of Education may establish guidelines for the program services and provide certificate forms for school district use.
