Licensees with administrative endorsements or Teacher Leader endorsements serving in administrative roles 50% or more of the day are exempt from completing an Illinois Administrators' Academy course during the 2021-2022 school year only.

Professional Educator Licenses expire on September 1 if not renewed, and lapsed licenses may be reinstated by either paying a $500 penalty or completing 9 semester hours of coursework in a relevant content area.

All educators must complete 120 hours of professional development per 5-year renewal cycle to renew their license, with exceptions for National Board certified teachers (60 hours), retired educators, and those working less than 50% in an educator position.

Lapsed licenses can be immediately reinstated following successful completion of requirements, with all back fees and registration fees owed from expiration through reinstatement date to be paid.

The State Board of Education conducts random audits of licensees to verify completion of professional development requirements and may revoke licenses for non-compliance.
