IL HB4265

Requires all public institutions of higher education in Illinois to offer a "non-binary" gender option on documents and forms asking students to identify their gender or biological sex, in addition to "male" and "female" options.

Applies to all documents and forms issued by public institutions beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year, including admission applications, in both electronic and paper formats.

Defines "public institution of higher education" to include the University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, and all public community colleges in the state.

Applies equally to each public institution of higher education and their governing boards throughout Illinois.
